What Happens at Your First Pelvic Health Osteopathy Appointment?

Booking your first pelvic health osteopathy appointment can feel like a big step, especially if you’re unsure what to expect. Whether you’re experiencing bladder leakage, pelvic pain, prolapse, pain with intercourse, pregnancy-related discomfort, or looking for support after having a baby, it’s completely normal to have questions.

Your first appointment is designed to understand you, your symptoms and your goals.

We’ll begin by discussing your medical history, lifestyle and reason for attending. This is your opportunity to share your concerns, ask questions and explain how your symptoms are affecting your day-to-day life.

Your osteopath will then perform a physical assessment based on your presentation. This may include looking at your posture, movement, breathing, and the muscles and joints around your lower back, hips and pelvis.

In some cases, an internal pelvic floor assessment may be recommended to assess muscle strength, coordination and relaxation. However, this is not required for every patient and is always your choice. Your osteopath will explain why it may be beneficial and only proceed with your informed consent.

Following your assessment, you’ll discuss the findings and develop a management plan together. This may include hands-on treatment, education, breathing strategies or exercises.

Our goal is to create a safe, respectful and supportive environment where you feel heard, comfortable and in control throughout your appointment.
